Installing Luma Cove shouldn't mean a security deposit conversation. And for what it's worth — minor paint chips from adhesive removal are generally considered normal wear and tear in most rentals. But we still want your removal to be as clean as possible. If you're renting, or just want a cleaner removal option down the road, here's what to use instead of the included tape.
What to grab
Command Medium Refill Strips. You can find them at most hardware stores or online. They're designed for exactly this — strong hold, clean removal.
The swap
The included professional-grade tape is built for permanent installs. If that's not right for your situation, skip it and use the Command strips instead. The channel mounting process is the same either way.
Before you apply
Wipe down the surface first. Dust, grease, or residue will weaken the bond regardless of which adhesive you use. A quick pass with a dry or lightly damp cloth does the job. Let it dry fully before applying.
Then follow the directions on the Command packaging — they're straightforward and worth reading. Press and hold, wait the recommended time before loading weight, and you're good.
One thing to know
Command strips hold well on smooth painted surfaces like eggshell, satin, and semi-gloss. On flat or matte paint, or surfaces painted fewer than 30 days ago, even Command strips can pull paint on removal. When in doubt, test a strip in a low-visibility spot first.
